I noticed alot of them used splenda and was wondering if anyone had a substitution for splenda that works well. I don't like to use artificial sweeteners. I also noticed they had alot of vegan recipes so if you are interested in that you should check it out. Tell me what you think. ![]() Rachel |

You could try stevia, a plant-based sweetener, in place of Splenda. You may also be able to use Agave nectar, which doesn't spike your blood sugar. Both are available at Whole Foods.

I don't know how stevia would work in place of splenda. Is the volume of product vs. sweetness factor the same? A lot of the recipes are baked items, and if stevia is more concentrated than splenda, that is going to change the consistency of the dough/batter. Remember, baking is science, while cooking is art. Tweaking sugars, salts, flour, and leavening agents can result in some funky foods. I would try to experiment before replacing splenda with stevia in a recipe and bringing the food to a potluck, or something.
Hungry girl has some great recipes for junk-food addicts working their way to healthier eating, but I think many of the recipes will not fit for people trying to eat as cleanly as possible. I refer to it as the lesser of the evils, but not ideal. Not that I'm judging by any means, as I can't seem to kick my one diet coke per day habit, and doubt that I ever will, unless I become pregnant again. |
