Hi, new and need to lose 40 lbs

So, where should I start? I am woefully out of shape, and must lose body fat and work my muscles. Please point me in the right direction..?
 
Congrats on taking your first step in getting into shape. Do you have any of the cathe workouts? I would suggest the basic step workouts and maybe you can do any of the weight programs/DVDs just start slow. Nothing happens over night it's a slow process but weight training is important to sustain your weight loss since muscle burns more calories in the resting state. Goodluck!
 
If you want to lose weight and get in shape, you've come to the right place :).

If you are new to Cathe and a beginner, I would suggest you start out with some of her more beginner/intermediate workouts. Here is a rotation to help you get started:

I would suggest you purchase all of the w/o's in this rotation: http://shop.cathe.com/beginner_exercise_workouts_s/88.htm. A full size cardio club step, a set of light dumbbell's, and a stability ball will start you off with minimal equipment.
