Default Help! Brain Freeze w/ starting STS

Hi,

I'm starting STS today...yay! I'm so excited. But as I'm looking over my workout card I'm confused about the target weight. If my target weight on an exercise is 16 lbs, is that using two 8 lb dumbbells w/ the gloves or using 15 lbs dumbbells w/ 1 lb in the gloves??

If it is an exercise that uses dumbbells (i.e., tricep kickbacks or dumbbell bicep curls--not barbell bicep curls), then it is referring to the weight of each dumbbell. So if it says the target weight for a dumbbell exercise is 16 lbs., you would use a 15 lb. dumbbell and a 1 lb. glove or wrist weight.

If it is an exercise that uses a barbell, it would be the total weight your barbell should weigh including the weight of the barbell. If you are using dumbbells for a barbell exercise, you would need to half the target weight to find what each dumbbell should way. For example, a barbell shoulder press with a target weight of 30 lbs. can be done with two 15 lb. dumbbells.

Hope that helps!

Thank you Julie!

Now if I can just figure out how to get set up for the next exercise, change out the sandbags in the gloves, change weights on the barbell, etc. within 30 seconds I'll be good to go. There was lots of pausing the DVD today

I had the same problem with the pausing. I just cannot change my weights as fast as Cathe and crew. Sometimes, I am just proactive and pause right after finishing an exercise, change my weights, push play, and enjoy the 30 seconds. It's almost as if not pausing causes me to stress out about getting the weights changed and then I mess up and have to catch up.

Something else I do is just leave the gloves with weights on when doing pushups or pull ups since it doesn't really affect those moves.

The changing weights does get easier with time. The first time I did Meso 1, I was always pausing. I've done it three times now (twice with a 5.5 month rotation, so really 5 times) and the last couple of times I did not have to pause at all. I do have pace weights which are easier, I think, than the glove weights. I do look ahead, though, and am constantly getting the next few exercises set up in advance.

Thanks girls...I'm glad I'm not the only one who is having to pause. I'm sure as I get more used to it, it will be easier to move quicker. The gloves are a bit of a pain...hopefully I'll figure out an easier way to deal w/ them too

I still pause quite often w/Meso 1, all of my weights (including dumbbells) are the adjustable plate type, so it's close to impossible to change as quickly as the crew (who has multiple dumbbell sizes & weights readily available). I just try to set up as many exercises as I can in advance, then when I need to change something, I hit pause and try again to set up as many as possible so I don't have to pause again for as long as possible.

But I never fear, because I know that in the blink of an eye, I'll be in Meso 2 and I'm fine w/ the pace from then on.
