Default Do I need 2 lb or 4 lb weighted gloves?

I'm working on getting the equip for my July start of STS. I just went to order the weighted gloves and didn't realize there are 2 lb & 4 lb options.
Which do I need?

Thanks

Tracy

I would go with two pounders.

When I have to micro-load a barbell, I also use wrist weights or my ankle weights, tighten them up as much as possible and slip them onto the end of my barbell. They work great for that.

I fell in love with PlateMates, because they are 1.25 pounds each and the magnets stick just as well to the barbell. No kidding. Just don't dangle it over your head if you are doing barbell work, put them off to the ends.

My dumbell set goes, 3, 5, 8, 10, 12, 15, and from there it jumps 5 pounds on up to 100. The easiest way to microload is with 2.5 pounds to make that bridge. Even strong magnets you get from a hardware store work.

I would look at a set of PlateMates (look on Amazon) in addition to the gloves if you already got them, and then if you have ankles weights or wrist weights you can also use them on the ends of your barbell.

Your welcome! At first I thought micro-loading was too much minutia, boy was I wrong, it really works !

That is a great idea DirtDiva...thanks I'll look up the Platemates.

I already got the 4lb gloves but I'll probably look around for some wrist weights too.

DixieGirl...

These are the wrist weights I use. I admit I use them only for micro-loading my barbell. You can't tell on the picture, but they have this velcro fastener and tightened all the way down it fits really snug on the end of a barbell. They are one pound each, and they are soft *iron* so no leaking of sand, and they are very flexible. I have lots of extra flex iron pieces, they are 1/2 pound each and I can micro-load with those too by slipping in another one and velcro that down, so you get the idea. My husband gets annoyed with me. He'll say something like.....just jump up a pound already!

Thanks So you use the wrist weights and the platemates both on the barbell? Do they work on dumbbells too? Or I guess you could wear the wrist weights when using the db's?

Thanks for all the great suggestions

I have used both at times, that's why my husband rolls his eyes. He says..."that's not a barbell" that's a refrigerator door", because of all magnets....In a way he's right, but going up to 4 pounds then jumping to 5 works for me when I start getting heavy on the barbell.

Usually I put the two wrist weights on the end for an additional 2 pounds Sometimes there is that STS workout where I need 3 or even 4 pounds of micro-loading and I'll put a PlateMate somewhere on the bar depending on how I'm lifting the bar.

Those wrist weights from Iron Wear will not wrap around the handle of a dumbell, if that is what you are asking. The PlateMates will stick to dumbells, kettlebell bottoms, barbells, etc. They won't stick to rubber plated weights. I think they even make PlateMates at 2.5 pounds each, instead of 1.25 each (which is what I have).
