Good morning,

Today I did KCM's 30 Minutes to Fitness, Muscle Definition. WOW! My arms are still shaking. For some reason workout 1 lasted almost 45 minutes. Not sure what is up with that. I only took a couple of water breaks, where I paused the DVD, but each could not have been 20 seconds. I think I will go over to her forum and ask about that. There are 2 workouts, plus a lot of pre-mixes and some focusing on specific body parts. I like this one a lot!

We are off to a match at our dog club, DH will be entering Keegan in Rally, to get some practice in for the real thing which is September 11 & 12.

It's a beautiful day here, warm, but low humidity,

I hope everyone is having a good weekend!

Hi Deb and any later posters--

This morning I did the live cardio of Zumba (55 min.).

We liked half of the dance programme yesterday. The first two dances--Tabula Rasa and Blanco--were not all that compelling. The first one was almost 40 min. long and there was a 10-min. middle section where the dancers gradually moved horizontally across the stage in what I would call a back-and-forth zombie sway. Blech! such dreck. It just took too long. and the music was mostly a whining violin. The second piece, Blanco, was only 4 women dancers who seemed to be doing the floor gymnastics competition in the Olympics. The problem was that the stage was dimly lit with tons of smoke flooding the stage and making everyone cough. Another bad idea. We liked the second two dances--Deep Down Dos and Untouched--so we were generally pleased. We like to grumble noisily during the intermissions.

The chef at the restaurant last night where dh sells his pigs gave us a 10-course meal with variations on pork in every course. Wow! That's all I will say. Maybe tomorrow I will come in with the list, because I asked to have it all written down. We only gave a $70 tip for what I would describe as at least a $500 meal created for us. I felt like we were in Iron Chef. We were there from 7-10. Even though the portions were small, I just plain could not eat all of each of them. Our son was very impressed, as were the other patrons who kept watching courses come out to us and then having the waiter describe them. He also kept changing the silverware. Yikes!

Monday

Good morning!

Today I did a 35 minute I-Tread, 242 calories burned.

Garance, well at least half of the program was good on Saturday. That meal sounds wonderful! WOW, courses,. yes, list them please. Did you take some home?

Hot and humid today, it's supposed to go up to 90. I am so happy, I only work 3 days this week then 5 glorious days off :D :D

Hi to Joan, Josie, Cathy & Valerie,

take care,

got up early and did calorie explosion. surprised myself. usually cannot workout that early, but was done by 8, showered and left for funeral. i love that workout. it is so tough, but alison makes it fun. well, gotta work this afternoon, so will probalby not get back here. ya'll have a great day!

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did Jazzercise Dancin' Abs (60 min.).

Darn, I forgot to bring in my menu. I will definitely bring it in tomorrow. Yep--brought several tidbits home--part of the "American ham" with corn salsa and part of the smoked pork tenderloin. Deb, it's hot here today as well. Sounds like summer is having its last gasp this week, but I am pleased with a bit more summer weather before the darkness begins to close in.

Gosh, Cathy, you sound absolutely jolly before going to a funeral (?).

DS is headed back to Boston this afternoon and then San Fran tomorrow. It was great to see him if only for a couple days. He played golf with his grandparents yesterday afternoon, but we had dinner together last night and stayed up to watch some of the emmys.

Good evening,

Garance I would I have loved to taste all the dishes. Probably just a bite of each but that's ok. We once went to a fancy restaurant in LV for New Years eve and they had a 4 course meal. My dh had something different for each course than I did. After each course the waiter asked how it was and of course I had to be honest. I didn't like any of it. I guess I'm not a black truffles kind of person. I'm sure he was afraid to give us the bill and what his tip would be. But I enjoyed the experience and with all the bites was quite full at the end of the meal.

official weigh in 166.6lb down .8lb.

How sad, I just saw a piece of paper with measurements from 9/09 and I weighed in at 166.5lb. What a wasted year(of dieting)

Joan

Tuesday

Good morning all,

Today I did a Cardio Coach for 30 minutes, 200 calories burned. That's me mad about the low calorie burn. I really worked hard, doing one minute jogs, alternating with 8% hill climbs. I guess I will have to accept that I burn about 100 calories every 15 minutes when doing cardio.

Hot and humid again today, I am still sweating after taking a shower and sitting in the AC.

Cathy, I went over to Collage and viewed the clip from that workout, WOW,...I give you cudos for being able to keep up with her.

Garance, Yumm...that meal and the leftovers was great. Just in case you need some, there was a couple of Ebay sellers with the Murad for $50 including shipping..let me know.

Joan, are you still on NutriSystem?

Hi to Valerie & Josie,

take care,

Good morning. Lots of time today, didn't realize there was no yoga class this week so I'm up and dressed with no place to go.

No formal workouts in a while. until today! not sure what I'll do yet. we hiked or cycled every day except yesterday, took the day off. cycling is usually 2-3 hrs, the hikes have been about 5-6 hrs. did garden work monday and shopping. new hiking boots are serious shopping. I get a couple years out of a pair, but eventually they lose water repellancy. old ones were taking days to dry out. wanted a new pair of bike shorts and I will say that is the worst... trying on black shorts in a full length dressing room mirror. similar to swimsuit horror.

Lynda that sounds like an impressive meal ... I'd want the vegetarian version. I've never had a meal like that, and probably won't. more an "experience" than "dinner". Love to hear the menu.

Joan, I agree, not a black truffle person here either. Love hot and spicy, pretty much any cuisine, interesting salads. I'm pretty easy to please but subtle flavors, no, not me. Joan, sometimes, it's about damage control. keep working, slow and steady. You haven't even been able to exercise much! How's the shoulder doing?

Weather's been lovely here, cool sunny breezy and pleasant. today supposed to rain but nothing significant.

Deb, how do you calculate the calorie burn? what's it based on? maybe you're needlessly annoying yourself. I know our elliptical gives a ridiculously exaggerated amount for calorie burn, so I totally ignore it. Have to decide about the presale today. I think I'll go ahead, DH's birthday is Nov and I never know what to get him.

Hi Ladies,

I did my weight work out and cardio on Saturday and on Sunday I had to prep for my colonoscopy on Monday, so you know where I was most of my Sunday. Every thing came out ok and now I only have my bone density test left.

I will be doing my weight workout and cardio today. I started my diet on Sunday, since I could not eat anything solid that day; I decided that it would be a good time to start.

Valerie, I hate bike shorts, they pinch my legs and look terrible. I wear the nicker/capri kind.

Deb, I'm glad that you are back on the wagon with your workouts. I never count the calories that I burn. It would just drive me crazy.

Garance, the dinner sounds great! I'm glad that you got to visit with your DS.

Hi to Joan and Cathy.

Josie

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning our water heater broke, so I quickly took a shower in the last of the hot water and did not exercise. Hope it gets fixed by later today!

So, here's the menu:

Cicharone (fried pork skin, but lighter than air and spicy)
Pork jerky (did not try this, but dh, fil and ds loved it and found out yesterday that it was made from the pork heart--def not for me!)

The following 2 dishes we shared:

Porchetta di testa w/ local pickled vegetables

Pork liver pate with pickled vegetables (the pate was scrumptious)

Fried Bacon with smoked paprika aioli in a celery salad tossed with blue cheese

Ham steak with corn, potatoes and mushrooms

Spaghetti with pork ragu

Cavatelli with pork, garlic and fennel sausage and kale

Molasses smoked pork Tasso ham and edamame

Maple bacon Jelly donut with vanilla ice cream (this was puffball of heaven and served warm with the ice cream)

Yes, it was an experience. I do have a friend in the Pol. Science dept who is quite a chef and did a meal like this several years ago, with maybe six courses and a "coup de milieu" of lemon sorbet and mint in the middle. I could imagine entree-sized versions of several of these dishes. The chef said they ran out of the ham steak, spaghetti with pork ragu, and the Cavatelli dishes which were on the menu as entrees.

Joan, at least you have not gained any weight over the past year, and it sounds like you are pleased with your laser treatments.

Josie, I guess you can regard your colonoscopy as a way to jump-start a diet! A positive spin for one of those medical procedures one must endure.

Deb, have you seen the lineup for DWTS? Bristol Palin???? The Situation from Jersey Shore??? Some girl from The Hills? Why? Not sure I will be watching this time around. Nope, not ready for Essential-C just yet. But thanks for keeping a watch at ebay.

Garance unfortunately I did gain the 13lbs I have now struggled to get off. If I had just stayed the same I would be down to 153 I have learned my lesson and weigh every day. Since the new scale is in the master bath I can do it first thing in the morning.

Deb I am still on ns. I have bought a lot of the pizzas. I love bbq chicken pizza.

Valerie shoulder is finally ok. My brother showed me what I was probably doing wrong with one armed rows. Using shoulder instead of back. Since that is very hard for me I may do modified pullups on bar. Brother says to hold arms steady and move chest. That also seems strange. He might have to be there. I was reading in a weight lifting guide book that if you do a dumbbell press and don't go straight over the shoulders you are more likely to injure shoulder. (If dumbbells touch or get close at top)

I did do 1 mile Leslie yesterday. I told myself I had to do something no matter how little.

I did breakdown and buy the new presale. They didn't give us a weeks warning. Or I missed it. I'm surprised I saw it today.

Joan

Lynda, a maple- jelly doughnut- bacon what?? I'll take your word it's good. sounds weird to me but describing foods in words doesn't always work well. since I don't eat bacon I can't picture bacon in the places it's turning up lately. Bummer on the water heater! Lets hear it for hot water, a delight you only notice when you don''t have any.... when we get done with a backpack the hot shower is soooo wonderful.

Joan, in more than one of the workouts cathe talks about initiating the movement in your back on 1 arm rows. STS? It feels different than using your arm to do the move. I could not tell for sure at first, but now I can clearly feel the back muscles go into action. I feel them especially in wide pushups. think hard about it while doing them. decrease your weight if you need to, to think about what makes your arm move. another non technical approach that works for me is to "make myself look like the people on the screen". I always seem to understand what cathe means when she describes a move, whereas my yoga instructor phrases things completely differently. alot of it is word descriptions that make sense to you.

yeah, speaking of the presale... I caved and ordered the 4 disk set. I'm not sure about the cardio one but the price of 3 disks versus 4 makes it worth a try. DH needs a B-day present in November and this will be part of it.

Josie, I wish I looked OK in knickers but my calves are so big they look ridiculous. so many women look great in these, but I'm not one of them. there's supposed to be some slack fabric and my calves always fill them up. I look better ( not good, just better) in shorts. the Terry ones are better.

Hump Day

Good morning,

Today I did workout 2 from KCM Muscle Definition. It was not has hard as the first workout, but still good. Still not sure why these are part of her "30 Minutes To Fitness" series since both are around 41 minutes long.

One more day and then I am off for 5 Wonderful Days!! :D

Valerie, I use a Polar heart rate monitor. It has information stored in it, like age, weight, resting heart rate etc. It may be because I have lost weight that I do not burn as many calories, not sure. I just like to keep track to make sure I am working as hard as I should. So you are getting the new Cathe workouts for your DH for his birthday? ;).

Josie, good idea, start dieting when you know you are completely empty!

Garance, those dishes sound impressive, however there are some body parts there that I would not eat! As for DWTS, I am considering not watching this season. I can't believe who they have. Talk about scrapping the bottom of the barrel. Their "formula" is getting old. Why do they have to have someone like Florence Henderson on each season now? this is a dance contest, not a comedy show. I felt so bad for the astronaut last season. As for the Murad, I always have "one in the cupboard" as they say. As soon as I open the spare, I start searching Ebay for a good deal. A question for you on this, I am finding that sometimes it doesn't really soak in or disappear on my face and it affects the make up application. Does this ever happen to you?

Joan, Maybe you should stick to tthe Leslie workouts or treadmill type until your shoulder is 100%. Do you know how many calories you are eating with NS?

Hi to Cathy,

Take care,

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did Bootcamp Boogie (63 min.).

Gosh it's really hot again here! No cooling until Friday.

Deb, you are probably right to always have an extra of Essential-C. I guess I rely on you too much for last minute purchases. Mine is still half full so I think I can wait another week or maybe until after I get back from England. I don't like the idea of some organ meats at all (e.g., tongue, heart, kidney), but I have always liked pate since my junior high years in an accelerated class with almost all Jewish classmates. Best friend's mom gave me chicken liver pate and there was no looking back. Yes I don't think DWTS is going to be anything more than a snooze this year. We've seen this formula too many times.

Valerie, there are so many things you don't like (prose fiction and probably poetry because you only read non-fiction, movies made before 1960, non-representational art and preferably only nature photography (this probably excludes photographers like Diane Arbus, Cyndi Sherman and Steichen's photos of Georgia O'Keefe), and red meat, and there's probably more) that I'm sure the little doughnut would probably not be to your taste. I thought it was a tasty little morsel mixing salty with sweet, and not heavy at all.

Joan, so it was in the previous year that you gained the weight and you have spent the past year trying to get it off? Just keep trying, or to quote one of my favorite Tim Allen lines, "Never give up and never surrender!"

Hi to Josie and Cathy!

It's been cold and rainy... really raining, not just showers. we needed the moisture but it was like fall-winter for a day and a half. even had a tree tip over, though we were able to right it this morning and it should be fine. it's a rose of sharon ( small tree) and very pretty but usually we don't have wind and rain when it's fully leafed out and blooming. so different from the heat and humidity you've mentioned. people here are complaining that summer is over without it ever having arrived. some years are like that. I like it cooler than most so no complaints here.

Well gosh, Lynda have I been sounding that negative? I still can't imagine bacon in dessert though I'd try it if it was offered. I tried high quality chocolate with curry seasoning in it. I like curry and I like chocolate but together I didn't enjoy it. seemed like a waste of two good things that didn't go together. You're right on the other things, I don't get enjoyment out of the things you listed. and you can add liver and mayonnaise to the list. so many choices, so little time.

Deb, yes I'm getting the set for DH for his b-day. we can both use it. since STS he's been more likely to work out with a cathe disk rather than sticking with treadmill/elliptical over and over. He did MM and one of the GS workouts this week. overuse injuries from doing the same thing over and over are less likely with more variety, so we both are making sure we stay away from too much repetition. I just did a 30 min treadmill yesterday, got delayed with bad traffic and ran out of time. Going cycling today after it warms up a little.

Good evening,

Garance yes I think I went from 166 last Sept up over vacation and tax season and then finally got back to where I was. I hope I'm smarter now.
But probably not.:p I didn't really start to diet(again) until May 5, 2010.

I can't believe I don't read things better. I thought the backdrop was going to be Hawaii. I thought that sounded great for over the winter even if some of the wo weren't that much different from what I have. The only Hawaii is the view out the window. I don't think it's even beach. It looks like city with ocean.

Have you noticed how great Cedie looks?

It is amazing how much better I feel when it is cooler. I also get so much more done. I took mother out to lunch and we went to the casino. Food was great and didn't eat too much. Well probably too much but not enought to wreck the week.

Joan

well, lynda, not jolly, but he was a Christian, and i know he is in heaven w/Jesus. what could be better than that?:).we are sad who lost him, but it makes it easier knowing he is w/the Lord in eternity.

well, yesterday, i managed to log 9.40 miles on my pedometer at work. i worked 5 hrs. and most of it was walking, jogging, some kind of moving. so, needless to say, i did not workout. but, today i did tracie's FOCUS uh, oops, can't remember. think it was her power up. anyway, did the 1st segment 2x for a full 30m of cardio and then the 10m ab/tri segment. with her lovely plyo pushups. :) tomorrow is supposed to be maximum body shaping , again w/tracie. think it will happen, don't think i am working many hours tomorrow.

well, we closed on our place today. it officially belongs to the school district. i was very sad to sign the papers. so, we have 2 yrs to find another place. have looked at several. i 'm very thankful we have 2 yrs. so we don't have to rush.

Thursday

Good morning,

I am off today, so my workout will be a little later. I plan on doing something on the treadmill.

Garance, just let me know when you need the Murad.. I am on Ebay all the time so it is no problem. Did you see my question about the Murad and the foundation? Do you put some type of moisturizer between the Murad and foundation? sometimes the Murad is a litte gritty...not sure how else to describe it.

Valerie, when we were in California earlier this month, we stopped at a cute ice cream place in a little strip plaza. We went in and there was no one there except the 2 teens behind the counter. The ice cream flavors were Avacado, Curry, Lieche ( sp?), and other strange ones. I asked if they had vanilla or chocolate, and they didn't:rolleyes:..needless to say, we walked out without getting anything. I know why the place was empty. You are lucky to have a DH that likes Cathe!

Joan, I saw your post over on the other forum, and SNM's answer. Did you pre-order any of them? Glad your Mom is feeling ok and that you had a good time with her out for lunch etc.

Cathy, I would love a job where I could work and count it as a workout! I hope you find a place that you love as much as the one you have now.

I am going to visit a friend today. Her mother has been ill, and basically bed ridden with visiting nurses etc. She lives with my friend, is 97! I think I will pick all the cut flowers left in my yard and bring them to her. Something to brighten her day.

Hi to Josie,

Later,

Deb, I hang out on a cooking BB sometimes, and avocado ice cream was a big topic a while ago with people raving about it. It's apparently pretty common in south america, according to another poster. I've never had a chance to try it but loving avocados, I would. Making a whole batch without trying first, maybe not. If I liked it, it would be calling to me every time I opened the freezer. I think there was an avocado cocktail too. If I come across the recipes again I'll post them for fun.

I like curry in savory dishes but also not so much if I'm cooking it. the smell seems to hang around for a week after, whereas in a restaurant I can enjoy it and leave. Like I mentioned a post or two ago, i didn't like curry with chocolate. seemed like neither benefited.

That's sweet of you to take flowers. I think most people enjoy them even if they're not feeling well.

DH has become a real cathe supporter. Our backpack and the kayak adventure was proof (again) to him that her workouts get pretty much everything and avoiding post trip aches and pains was great.
going for a ride, more later.

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did 4 Fast Miles with Leslie.

Deb, I have never had any trouble with the Essential-C being gritty. Instead, it feels silky to me and works well with my foundation. I don't use much, though, and I vaguely remember you saying that you like to slather it on. I wish I could give you some of my flowers. The zinnias are still going crazy and are so cheerful. I bet this will brighten your friend's day. Hey, have you ever tried green tea ice cream? I didn't think I would like it, but definitely did.

No, I don't think you are negative, Valerie, just very narrow in your range of interests and enjoyments and not open to many of the liberal arts. You seem "positively" content with very few likes. Very different from my students and colleagues--or me, for that matter.

Joan, I have not been keeping up with the new Cathe DVDs, but I thought it was going to be a Hawaii background, too. Maybe it's Waikiki, a teeming city (?). Hmm, I haven't looked at the photos for the new DVDs, but I looked at some of the roadtrip pics, and I thought Cedie looked like she had been baking in the sun too long. I just have this thing about the sun aging my skin, so tanning seems less and less attractive to me.

Cathy, was it a relative or friend who died? That's a lot of mileage!

Went to see Winter's Bone last night. Excellent indie film and the actress, Sarah Lawrence, was superb. Not a jolly film, though the ending was upbeat.
