Hi,

Well I have not slept...we lost my Dad yesterday, I am very sad and tired..so many thoughts going through my mind. He was not just a wonderful father, but also a great friend. It is so hard..

Ahh Deb--I am so sorry for your loss. It must have been very sudden, even though you have mentioned his ongoing health problems. Sending hugs. Please try to give yourself a little TLC and don't fall totally into a slough of despond. It sounds like you have some very loving memories of your dad.

I started STS, and found the multiple sets of pushups very daunting. I used mostly 8s and 10s for 60% rm, a couple 5s for shoulders, and a 20# barbell for curls and overhead press. Followed this with the pilates abs, so close to 70 min.

I really enjoyed Slumdog Millionaire, despite some pretty desperately ugly scenes in the slums of Mumbai. We also went out to a Mexican restaurant last night that we haven't been to in years because we thought it was awful. It has definitely improved--immensely.

Looks like snow might be ruining another Wed. night of ballroom dancing. Darn!

Hi to Linny, Josie, and Joan!

<<<<<Deb>>>>> I'm so sorry for your loss. I don't think you can ever be prepared for this.

We went to hotel at casino for my birthday yesterday. I even got 2 miles on the treadmill in their fitness room. We had a really nice dinner with friends of ours. The bread was my downfall. Otherwise 4oz of steak and 1/4 of sweetpotato and salad wasn't too bad for calories.

Lunch with son and dil was potato skins and chicken fingers from appetizer menu but only ate 2 of each. Sometimes I just feel like junk food. Semi-surprise they announced dil is pregnant due Sept 18. Good news except can I really take care of two kids?

Back again,

I bought Dirty Dancing -official dance wo from Target today. It was 4 routines with music from the movie. I'll never look at marching in place the same way. It was definitely a fun cardio and since no one saw me I looked just like Jennifer Grey:rolleyes:.

Joan

Quick check in before 10:00 appointment.

Deb I was thinking of you this morning. I am glad you weren't in Florida.

Ouch:( My knees and lower back can't take dirty dancing. It's a shame because it was fun. The steps individually were pretty easy. I know I didn't put them together perfectly but close enough.

I will check in later with wo. IT HAD BETTER BE STS!!!!!

Garance Are you Sore? Is the wo more or less hard than any other Cathe dvd?

Hi Josie & Linny,

Joan

Good Morning Ladies,

I will be doing PUB this evening and abs. My peanut and I had fun this weekend and when I left him home he was crying and would not let me go. I felt terrible leaving him like that.

Deb, I'm so sorry for your loss. I will keep you and your family in my prayers.

Hi Joan, Linny and Garance. I will check back later.

Josie

Hi Deb, Linny, Josie, and Joan--

Keeping you in my thoughts, Deb.

This morning I did 5 miles with Leslie (75 min.).

Joan, I AM sore in my chest mostly, a little in my shoulders. It's all those pushups and in so many styles. Tomorrow is back and tris, but my tubing is pretty unchallenging. I ordered a tougher piece from Cathe. I wish her patent-pending pullup bar was read to be ordered. It sounds like you had a fun birthday and did pretty well on the food. Joy Bauer on Today says you should just tell the waitperson not to bring any bread, but that's not fair to the people you are with. If I tried that with DH, he would be pretty unhappy.

I am enjoying everyone else gearing up for the semester. Love my sabbatical. Gloating.

I thought the Superbowl was pretty exciting this year. I didn't care who won, though. Loved the Boss at halftime and Jennifer Hudson's rendering of the "Star-spangled Banner" was very moving.

Hi Ladies:
Things are getting busy at new job. They will be going to be computerized next month,so lots of computer inservices coming up.Friday we had an admission come in at 4:15p so I ended up staying till almost 6:30p.Seems like most doctors come in after they office closes, today one came in at 4:00.So I helped the nurse with orders till 5p and decided I can't be staying late everyday.
Deb:I hope you are getting the rest you need while going through this ordeal.Try to think he is in a much better place now and not going through the chest pains and shortness of breath anymore.
Garance:Sounds like STS is working those muscles out.I didn't see Slumdog, but my DH did and he enjoyed it.I did go to Italian restaraunt this weekend and I do love the loaf of bread they bring to table(one of my big weaknesses too)
Josie:I hated leaving my son when he did that.Talk about guilt trip.
JoanC:Happy Belated Birthday!!!Sounds like you behaved yourself in the birthday dinner.Good Job!Too bad about your knees with the Dirty Dancing.I would have loved to be a good dancer.I did take lessons in 2000 before my wedding, took me quite awhile to get the steps right.I loved the swing dancing the best.

Good evening Linny, Josie Garance and Deb

STS arrived at 6:00 pm. They are never that late. I did disc 1. All pushups were on my knees. Maybe next go round with sts I can do full pushups. I had to drop almost all target weights. I thought 1rm were really high. I guess if I was only doing one exercise I could lift heavier.
Dumbbells ranged from 8-12 lbs.

Linny I'm glad you started before the computer conversion. That would have been even harder. Hope you get to go home earlier.

Josie I get to pick up Elliot from day care tomorrow. We'll see if she will be happy to see me or not. I really miss having her, at least part time.

Hi to Deb and Garance.

Joan

Good morning,

Just checking in before next appointment. I decided not to lower 1rm's based on yesterday. I was exhausted before workout. I might have been able to lift heavier. Of course I will probably be exhausted for the next 10 weeks.

I will check in later with wo.

Joan

Good Morning Ladies,

Today is my cardio day, I will be doing 30 minutes at work and 45 minutes in the evening.

Deb, I hope that you are doing well. Keeping you in my prayers.

I just watched a beautiful and powerful presentation that really touched me and I wanted to share it with you. I'm sure you'll enjoy the breathtaking images and the inspiring message.
You can check it out here: http://www.simpletruths.com/a.aspx?mo=mybb&t=2&af=132

Hi Garance, Linny and Joan.

Hi Deb (if you are back), Linny, Josie, and Joan--

This morning I did the back and triceps on mesocycle 1 (56 min.). I couldn't do any of the chinups or pullups on this, and now I am wondering why I bought the tubing. It's somehow attached to the wall so that you can pull down on it. I should have previewed this I guess, because I darn sure am not going to attach tubing to my living room wall. I will, however, buy that new contraption of Cathe's if she ever gets it patented. I guesstimated my weights, and I think I went too low on some of them, which means a purchase, I suspect, of some 25 and 30 lb dumbbells at some point--maybe even 40s. I am dreading the legs workout on Thursday, Joan.

You sound very busy with your new job Linny. Are you still on that 5:30 AM exercise plan? Is DH keeping up with 24? It was really good last night. The plot thickens.

Josie, that was a very soothing little film. I wish I could be as serene as the music.

Let us know how you are Deb. Thinking of you and hoping you are well.

Wednesday..

Good Morning all,

Thank you all for the kind words and "cyber" hugs.

I will be going to work today, I took Monday and Tuesday off. Monday we met with the rector of the church to set up the memorial service. Yesterday I went to order the food for afterwards. We will just stay in the church hall. No workouts, although I have had plenty of time, just no energy.

Garance, I really wish Cathe would have had the pull up tower done too. I have a door pull up bar that I installed years ago, but I could never do a single one! I tried it during P90X and ended up using those bands that have the weighted thing that you close in the door? YOu may be able to use those if you have a door in your workout area, or maybe just wait for the tower. I caved and bought the slanted risers from Amazon...it was free shipping. I have 20 # DB's plus platemates that make them 22.5 each, are you saying we will need even heavier?

Joan, are you using 60% of your 1RM? I can understand how you would be exhausted this time of year!

Linny, they sure keep you busy at the new place, but it still has to be better than the hours and drive to the other one!

Josie, than you so much for that wonderful linke..it was so soothing and beautiful... sounds like you had fun with the "peanut"...

Have a great day...and those that are here on the east coast..stay warm!

Good morning Deb, Garance, Josie and Linny,

I just posted warning about weighted vest on the open forum. My wo yesterday was 3 mi on treadmill. I wore 20lb weighted vest for less than 10 minutes. The pain along my spine is worse than doms from 1st disc.

I won't be wearing it for leg exercises.

My 60% target was 16lb for standing quarter stop curls w dumbbell. I could only use 8lbs and do all reps. My 60% alternating seated overhead shoulder press was 13lb. I used 12lb but could only do 10 reps. That was the first exercise after 46 pushups. I lowered most of the other weights to make sure I could do all reps and they felt just about right at end of reps. Next week is 65% 1rm I hope to raise wt 1-2lbs.

Back to work. I will check in later with wo.

Joan

Hi Deb, Linny, Josie, and Joan--

This morning I did Kelly C-M's double Kickbox (53 min.), plus 12 min. of the no equipment Cathe abs--I didn't finish it. Tonight there is definitely ballroom dancing, because the weather is just COLD, not snowing, sleeting, etc.

Deb, I just feel like I won't have heavy enough weights for the next two mesocycles, since I only go up to 20 lb. dumbbells, and I feel like I can do 20 lb. easily on rows or on deadlifts. I guess I have a strong back. I can do quite a few biceps curls on 15s too. Shoulders I can do 15s, but would probably fail early with 20s, but if I improve with these cycles, who knows? DH is offering to put up a chinup bar for me. My other problem is that I don't have an available wall for those squats against the wall tomorrow. I will just have to wing it.

Joan, I have read that you should never do walking or running with anything over a 10 lb. vest. I cannot remember precisely why, but I think it leads to injuries like the ones you may be suffering with your back. Please don't push yourself. If something feels bad, just stop early.

Hi to Linny and Josie!

Once again, Deb, so glad I met you at this site, and my heart is with you.

Back again,

I'm putting off disc 2 until tomorrow. Back is better or else it is the 4 advil. I still think another day rest will help since it is back and shoulders.

Joan

Hi Ladies,

I have had the morning from hell! Meetings and problems with several of my researchers.
The NIH is very strict right now because of the cuts and several researchers have balances that they want to carry forward and the agency is saying why did you have money what is the justification. It they don't come up with a good one, the agency will cut next years funding by the amount of the balance.

I could not get up this morning again to do my PLB. Ever since the holidays and being sick during that time, I lost my momentum. I need to start from scratch, but I will get it done this evening.

Deb, I'm glad that you are back, I know that it is hard to get through this hard time, but we are here.

Hi Garance, Joan and Linny.

Josie

Hi Ladies:
Another late night at work.A MD came in unexpectedly and no paperwork was ready for him so had make copies of everything and then do walking rounds with him.So I didn't leave work until 6:00p.I'm writing all these extra hours down so I'll have a record if I want to take some time for appointments.
Deb:Glad you're back, how is the rest of your family taking your father's passing?Prayers are with all. I do agree with you about the hours and gas saved from last job.I just wish they would give me a better orientation to paperwork.Nurse that was suppose to orient me more today, basically talked about herself all day.Where she went to school, where she worked, where she went on vacation last year,......
Garance:I actually did get up this morning at 5:30a and worked on elliptical.I was bad girl on sun and tues with no workout. That bed just feels too darn comfortable some times.Hope you got to go dancing tonight.
Josie:Good luck with job, thats all you need is cuts from next years budget.Hope you were able to get your workout in.You probably need it especially after that morning from hell.
JoanC: Ouch!Sounds like you better stay away from that vest for awhile.Thats all you need is throwing your back out.
~Linny~

Thursday

Hi ladies,

The obit was in the paper this morning...it is all starting to feel real. I had a dream about my Dad last night, it was strange, he was there but I knew that he had passed away, while I was hugging him. He is on my mind so much right now.

Garance, we should not be getting much snow so I hope you got to go to your dance class last night. I really do not want to buy any more dumbbells, I guess I will need to get 25's.. it is -6 here right now! Brrr

Josie, I know how you feel about the budget..we are in our process now, and I know it will be grim. When you find your momentum, can you see if mine is there too?

Joan, I would not use that vest any longer for walking etc. There is nothing as bad as a back injury.

Linny, My family is doing ok...thanks...Good idea about keeping track of the extra hours you have worked in case you need to take time off. Are you salary or hourly?

stay warm!
