Chin-Ups Bite

Soosan

Cathlete
I thought that might get your attention! We had a great family weekend. The weather was beautiful and we hung out on the water with friends doing various things. How was everyone's Mother's Day?

I'll be doing a TBW workout with my friend today who, due to both of us being sick at different times, has not worked out in about 2 weeks. I think we'll probably do Push Pull. I've only worked out 3 times since I was sick the week before last, so I guess Push Pull will be fine - *sigh*.

Have a great day, everyone!:)

Soooosan-Glad you are feeling better and that you had a nice Mother's Day. Mine was really nice too.

Today, I'm going to start with doing one body part per day. I haven't worked on my chins in several days so that is on my to do list today too. We had some family visit this past weekend because my DD graduated from college. I took the day off of work today - my Mother's Day gift to myself :)

Joanne

Chinups do WHAT???? Ms Sooooooooooooosan, that DID NOT come out of your mouth. Just wait till Briee sees it and your gonna be in trouble LOL!!

Glad you are feeling better. Have fun with PP

Joanne, sounds like you've been busy. Let us know how the one body part per day is working.

Did pullups yesterday and will do upper body and kickbox this evening.

Ok today was upper body. If anyone is interested here is what I did. I am trying to gradually increase wts. Bench was still at 55 pounds but 3 sets of 8 (was 4x6), DB lat row 40# 4 sets of 6 (was at 35# 3x8), millitary press 50# 5 sets of 5 reps (was 45# 3x8), skull crushers 15# 2 sets of 5 and 3 sets of 4 (was 14.5#), biceps were the same at 21.25 4 sets of 6 reps. I followed that up with KB and a stretch. I am definately seeing strength gains with this. Friday I will up my bench to 60 with DH's help ;)

I hope ya'll aren't tired of me posting this. It's kinda serving as a w/o log to keep me motivated LOL!!

Hey Joanne! Happy Mother's Day and congratulations to DD! Does one body part per day usually work for you?

Catherine, I think it's great that you post what you do and your weight loads. You are so strong!

I couldn't face PP yesterday so we did Supersets. Believe it or not, I wound up pulling the old rhomboid while doing bike manuevers!x( What the heck is up with that??? It was weird - I felt it happen and everything. I havent' felt that injury since the old chin-up days. Anyway, it was hurting all night long and I guess I'd better not to anything to exacerbate it. Bummer, bummer, bummer!x(

Hey Chinnies! My neck and back are feeling better but still not quite there, so I am definitely not going to make it worse this time! I did some light yoga with friends this morning (no sun sals), Imax 3 yesterday and am going on a 6-mile bike ride at 7pm to honor a man in our community who died this past year. It's a nationwide annaul event to honor bike riders who've died on the highway. It was such a shock that it happened to him. I think he was around 65 and in unbelievable shape. Such a shame.

Hope you all are enjoying your day!:)

Sooooosan-That is terrible about the man who died on the highway. I didn't even know about this nationwide event. Thanks for sharing that info. Glad your neck and back is feeling better.

Catherine-Please keep posting on your workouts. You are so strong and I love reading about it.

I did PS back and biceps today and Imax 2. I haven't done PS in a long time. I forgot how much I like that series.

Joanne

Thanks Joanne!! I am trying to gradually increase my wt loads and see where it takes me LOL!! Today was S&H legs only plus chins. I did 45# squats (my chest is stronger than my legs :+) 35# lunges(should have done 40#) 40# plie squats and 22.5# calf raises. I did chins 5,4,4,3 for a total of 16. I really need to push myself on the legs. Seriously, I am benching 55 and squating 45???? That's messed up. I think we know what body parts I like to work and the ones I don't like to work  :+ ;)

Where the heck is Briee? She must be upset about the title- Sooooooooooooosan!!

Some computer glitch has prevented me from checking the forum. I finally emailed cathe.com (assuming it was Cathe's problem cause I could check everything else on the internet) and they said it WAS MY problem. Ahhhhhh! It's fixed now - don't know why or how, but the computer guy was here today and I'm BACK!

Soosan..so sorry to hear about your neck/back. I HATE INJURIES TOO! Back stuff can be a bugger - are you going to see a chiro?

Catherine...keep posting your workouts - I LOVE reading about them.

Joanne...Chippewa Falls...I'll have to look this up. Are you going to bike in it? And if so which distance?

I did ME with our ladies Tuesday night - I was wiped out. Did LIC last night with some heavy shoulders afterwards. Hmmmmm what to do tonight.

Don't ya guys just LOVE spring/summer. Our gardens coming up and it's so pretty!

Briee

Forgot to add....I ROTFLOL at the title of this thread.

Catherines right....you're in trouble Soosan!!!!}( }( }( }(

Briee

There she is --Briee!!!!! Glad you got your computer situation all fixed!!

Thanks for the compliment. I am still a bit frustrated that I am not able to progress with my chins any better than I am :( I seem to only be able to do a set of 5 every couple of weeks and then it's back down to sets of 4 and 3. Don't know why. Sometimes I think it's mental and others there's just no way it's gonna happen physically. I am trying to do more pullups and maybe that will help. Or maybe I am just expecting too much.

Today is rest AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!
Tomorrow is upper body

Catherine, yes there is a MAJOR mental thing goin on with chins. And some days ya have it and some ya don't. I can't always figure it out. What ya eat, how ya slept. I DO know I can't do them on days when I'm just plain tired. And like anything, if I concentrate and "feel strong" I can usually do more. Now...keep things in perspective, LOOK HOW OLD WE ARE AND DOING CHINS. I have to remember that sometimes. When we took the kids to compete in the speech competition there was also a pull up, pushup competition (athletic division). Now...these were not the cream of the crop athletic kids by the normal public school standard, but they looked pretty good to me, until they got up to the bar. I was blown away, I think the winner did 8 pullups and 56 pushups. Most of the kids could hardly complete 3 and they LOOKED athletic to me. Of course the flip side to this...I had my friends children over for the weekend and they are computer geeks for the most part - but one of them hopped up to my bar and did 15 right off the bat....poor guy, my first thought was "Soosan's NEVER going to speak to him".

Just a few thoughts. You're doing AWESOME Catherine!!

Briee

THANKS BRIEE for reminding me how old I am LOL!!! I hear what you are saying and I am grateful just to be able to do any. But I read other message boards and see people making better progress and wonder why. I bet it's cause they are 20 years younger than me.

BTW I was meaning to ask- are you guys like exhausted the day after doing heavy legs? I did S&H legs -heavy for me yesterday and was exhausted today. I am thinking back and for the last few weeks it seems that I've noticed this the day after heavy legs. Just wondering if it's not just me.

;) ;)

Briee, you are so right to point out that the fact that you, Catherine and others our age who are doing chins at all is SO impressive! I am really in awe of that! I'm just proud of the fact that I've been a relatively consistent and hard exerciser for 20 years - that's more than most people can say too. Yay for us!:)

My injury is much better because I actually took my own advice and have laid off it this week. I've been doing cardio every day but no weights and I'm going to stick to my guns until Monday - otherwise I'll just be set back longer.

Catherine, another P90X? How great is that?

Joanne, how are your chins coming along these days?

Sooooooooooooosan, good for you for sticking to your guns. I know how hard it is when you really want to pick up that wt but you know that you shouldn't. But you are doing the right thing.

You are absolutely right. It is an amazing feet to be a consistent exerciser for 20 years. I wish I could say that. But I am proud to be doing what I have for the last 5 years.

I did my upper body w/o today. Had DH hand me the 60# BB and did 3 sets of 8 reps fairly easily. I was suprised. The last two reps were hard, but I think I will do 65 next time he is avail to help!!! The rest of the workout was 15# pec flies 3 sets of 8 (hard after those bench presses) DB lat row40# 4 sets of 6(same), Millitary Press 50# 4 sets of 6 (last week did 5x5), rear flies 15# 3 sets of 8, skull crushers 15# 4 sets of 6 and biceps 22.5# 2 sets of 6 and 4 sets of 4 (last week did 21.25#). This is the first time I have tried doing lower reps and going as heavy as I can. Trying to progress a little each week. I really like it. Hopefully later will do KB and some abs.
