Happy Sunday, cheetahs!

I did manage to get a little more shut-eye last night, but I’m still up pretty early. Which is fine b/c there’s plenty to do today! I only made a small dent in the mountain of grading I brought home with me. You know, I put pressure on myself to try and get things graded as quickly as possible, but I’m starting to think I ought to ease up a bit. It’s so time-consuming to read and grade 100 papers -- I think the kids will understand that.

Last night, I *chowed down* at Outback – so I have to work hard today. Actually, I have to re-examine my rotation b/c I’m not even sure what was originally planned for today. I do know I am, once again, not up to running outside in the cold & wind! It’s funny – I can remember a time when I used to just charge out there regardless of temperature…But I think the previously mild temps we’ve had (60s in January? Come on!) have spoiled me.

Catching up with last night’s posts…

Colleen ::: good to see you drop in. I rec’d your PM and added it to our order. :) Oh, yes ~ go for the iPod -- you will love it!!

Christine ::: good for you, reforming yourself! After yesterday’s indulgence (I spent a lot! I ate a lot!), that’s what I need to do, too. Yeah, it’s amazing how your day can fly, and yet, you don’t really seem to accomplish all *THAT* much. I have many days like that *lol*. So, did you decide anything about the HRM?

Wendy ::: *lol* re: being alive but not kicking. You had a day on-the-run, too. Good job on your 5-miler. Hey, that’s not a shabby pace in my book! Rest day? I think you should do the B&G leg blast! Yeahhh, that’s a GREAT idea *mwuah-ha-ha* }( }( }( :D The PT program sounds perfect for a busy mom! And yes, it absolutely makes sense to pursue what you love! Go for it, girl ~ I’m sure you’ll ace that test.

Susan ::: DM??? *Cues up Donna Summers’ “Bad Girls” music.* ;-) Hope your sciatica isn’t complainin’ about it today.

Oh, yes...I placed the order for our shirts. We had just a few more than 15, so we wound up saving about $1 per shirt. I will PM everyone who ordered just in case not everyone stops by the regular thread today, but the total cost will be $20 now instead of $21. Again, that covers the mailing envelope and postage from my house to yours. The shipping estimate, as of now, suggests that the shirts should be delivered to me by Feb. 5th.

Have a great Sunday, ladies!
Cathy :)

good mornin' cheetahs...

actually this is a great morning for me. tomorrow i am giving my resignation to my full time gig. woooooooohooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!! can you tell i am just a little excited:p . the place started to make me sick while i was there. it's amazing what stress and being someplace where you are unhappy can do to you.

yesterday's run was alright. i managed to go the distance (5 miles) however i did walk the hills. there were lots of hills. so i can see where i have alot of re-training to do. what i did like was that it was challenging. what i didn't like was the cold. i had running gloves on and my fingers were freezing. felt like i stuck them in ice for awhile. i want to give it another chance with different gloves next sat. if that doesn't work i will wait until it warms up to take my runs back outside.

wendy- i absolutely think you should go for it girl! you would be an awesome personal trainer. me and dh have the certs. from IFTA (who you say..:p ) well it was a cheapy cert. just something to get our foot in the door. however to take it up a notch, to reach my ultimate goal of become a fitness director i would need a nationally accredited cert. so we are looking at obtaining the ace or NASM certifications. so i said it just depends on what you eventually want to do. if you want to go the cheap route to see if it's even something you would enjoy, check out www.ifta-fitness.org. if not then i would look into the others. i am actually signed up for a couple other certs from them next month. step choreograph and lean muscle. which one did you receive in the mail? our certification was one day. we received the manual for home study and then went in for the lecture and exams.

cathy- thanks for placing the orders. just let me know when i need to send you the loot. the cruise we are taking leaves from charleston, sc and travels to cozumel, grand caymans and key west, fla. needless to say my eating has been nothing short of clean the last couple of days. LOL:D

carole- i will look into silk wraps. that may be the way to go for me. i was just reading an article about silk wraps. thanks for the website link.

christine- as i blush...thanks for the compliments about me about my boys. i know i've told you this before however i have no problem saying it again, you too have a beautiful family. i just love your avatar pic.

today's workout is p90x chest and back. i just caught the infomercial for p90x last night and it pushed me over the edge. since i don't have 90 days before the cruise i am going to do a modified version.

i am also happy that my church is getting into fitness. today we are having a sit and fit praise. we have a fitness specialist coming in to show various workouts.

have a wonderful day ladies. i know i will...:)

Sunny ::: Yessss!! Congrats to you! What a load that must be off your shoulders. So, did you give them the standard two weeks? I hear you on the not-wanting-to-run-out-in-these-frigid-temps. I know we have a few cheetahs who have been braving worse than what I've been seeing lately, but I just ain't havin' it right now. Hopefully, it warms up some! You're welcome on the shirts...You can send me a check anytime. :) Your cruise sounds similar to the one I took except we went to NOLA instead of Key West...it was a great time! Enjoy your day! The sit & fit praise sounds cool.

Happy Sunday Morning Girls!:)

I'm a bit tired from lack of sleep but it's okay. It's Sunday, it's a rest day and DH is going to watch football with friends so I can take a nap with Joey later!:p

Cathy: I will not bust your chops over "wimping out" of a cold weather run. It's not even 20 degrees out there right now...You wouldn't catch me out there! NO WAY! LOL You sound like I used to be back in the day before I became a mom and got old. LOL I'd always be going out with a friend or 2 to eat and for a couple of drinks or whatever. Me and 2 of my friends specifically used to meet at the same Applebees every week and we'd be there for HOURS eating, drinking and chatting. The waiters got to know us. We'd always request the same table so we'd get the same waiters usually! LOL

Sunny: Yeay for you girl! That is sooo awesome that you are going to be giving your notice. Did you find a p/t job or just decide that you guys can make it work until you find one? I used to have a job that made me sick over even the thought of going there. It's not healthy. Glad you are getting out! = ) I wrote down the name of the cert you and DH got. So I guess gyms don't neccessarily require that your cert. come from a specific place? That's what worries me and why I'm still feeling a bit hesitant. My SIL said though that at her gym alot of the gals are cert'ed from different orgs. I guess I should stop being paranoid...maybe it's a way to subconsciously put off ordering the materials cause I'm scared! LOL

Okay, I'm done with my book for now. I'll be back in a bit!

MWAH!:*

Hi Ladies:) I haven't got my coffee in me yet and am still feeling a bit fuzzy. Two of the Girls, my Mom and I went out at about 8:00 last night for dessert and specialty coffees. It was good company and good food but I pretty much *couched* it after we got home. I'll get some cardio in and B&G (love to HATE one legged squats!!}( ) This afternoon the Girls and I are shoe shopping and really looking forward to it. I dunno about this on-line dating thing. I don't chat on MSN or Yahoo but I guess I could start. The site I'm on gets so much traffic that I don't feel it's much of a filtre. About 5 minutes into my first conversation with someone I realised that this stranger went to school with my husband and is friends with our Best Man. Blahhh, I didn't say anything but KNOW that I am NOT looking for a blast from the past!! Why does everyman on that site LOVE NASCAR!?!?! (not that there's anything wrong with NASCAR, it's just an observation ;) Another fellow gave me his phone # so I called and my nerves really surprised me, almost got the better of me. He wasn't home but after I just thought it was so absurd to be calling someone I don't know, it's so random and I'm not really comfortable with it. I really liked that with Glen we very naturally like each other, this on-line stuff feels so forced to me, I guess I'd feel differently if I already was an on-line chatter. Okay, I'm going on now but I've missed you all this week and would rather spend my time here than 'trolling' on LavaLife! I'll have to wrack my feeble brain for different strategies to create interesting and more natural opportunities to meet new people.

Cathy, I don't blame you for not running outside brrrrrrrrrrr...... I'm sure that once you get your grading groove on you'll plow through those suckers in no time!!:7 I went for the Mocha cheesecake and coffee with Bailey's and Frangelico last night Cathy, now you give it up, whadja have at the Outback:9 My Kids have been bugging me for a good feed of ribs, such a decadent treat:)

Sunny, you sound very....well..sunny today!! You so happy and excited that it comes right through the screen!! Sit and fit praise sounds like a fabulous way to give thanks for our healthy bodies!! Enjoy your day.

Wendy, you would be an awesome trainer!!! You already know so much about fitness, go for a national certification right away, you'll never regret it. You'll know when the time is right:)

Hello to all of you Cheetahs, have a wonderful Sunday!:*

Take Care
Laurie

Hey Wendy :)

Glad I'm not alone wussing out on the outdoor runs! :p :) *lol* about the going out/eating rituals before you became a mom & got "old." I think we're about the same age, aren't we?...So you couldn't possibly be old *lol*. I've heard that 40 is the new 30, so that must mean 30 is the new 20. Therefore, I'd say we're in great shape then...ha ha.

Wendy ::: thought you might be interested in seeing the certs some of the PTs at Cathe's gym have: http://www.hugeclub.com/Personal_Training.htm

Laurie ::: great to hear from you again! We've missed you. You had me bustin' a gut over the trials & tribulations of the online dating scene (Your comment about NASCAR reminded me of a Seinfeldepisode..."Not that there's anything wrong with that...") *lol* No offense to anyone here, but I don't get the NASCAR thing, either. And wow! What are the odds that you'd run into someone who knew your husband?? Crazy. I would also feel funny calling someone out of the blue. Maybe it'll get easier. Just wondering...is it a paid service you're using? OK, I have to divulge what I ate at the Outback, huh? Oh, yikes. It's time to repent after this. OK, I had two Coronas, part of a Bloomin' Onion, three slices of that delicious Russian black bread, most of a house salad with a small amount of blue cheese dressing, the 9 oz. Victoria's filet, and garlic roasted mash. OINK!

Karen ::: yowzas! 24 degrees??? Well, maybe the cold will help you reach your PR since you'll want to generate some heat! :) Best of luck to you...looking forward to your race report later on.

Good morning cheetahs

Cathy...If you can get any of her books, she is good and they are short and sweet! it is also Sally Edwards (with an "s") she is a triathlete. Yes, I always turned of the insessant beeping with some of my HR monitors, drove me nuts. I have run near people in races before that have there HRM set to beep it seems all the time....good incentive to run faster and get away from them...:)...sounds like the shirt deal worked out great. I will be sending you a check...:)

Sunny...that is great you can give your resignation in! Good job on the 5 miles. Hill running is alot tougher than flat. But hills make you strong. I hope you can find a tech to do silk. Fiberglass is very similar. There is also a wrap called Linen, but you can see the mesh of the product so you always have to wear colored polish and many of my clients go natural or french.

Laurie...I bet the online dating can be tough. I am glad you are giving it a try. I have never understood the NASCAR thing myself...but many women think I'm odd for loving pro Football so much! I know years ago before I started dating my DH, I had dated alot without any luck (dated some weirdos) and resigned myself to the fact that no one was out there for me and I'd never get married. Then one day my DH walked into Big 5, the sporting good store I was working at....and you know thw rest...:)..So, have you tried the Leg Blast premix from B&G? It is a killer...:)

Karen...GOOD LUCK!! You will warm up as you run...:)

Shelly...glad you are feeling so well after the marathon. The Asics feel good but I have not run in Asics for about 12 years! I have the silver band too, but so far have not tried it with the firewalkers! You are a tough cheetah.

Laura...do you use your Elliptical much? Enjoy your run today.

Colleen....nice to see you...:)...remember iTrain.com for workouts to download to your Ipod too.

Christine...way to go with BM2 yesterday. It does feel nice to get in good eating the next day after bad. KM and MM were alot of fun yesterday.

Wendy..wow! you had a busy day yesterday. Way to go on the 5 mile run!! I think going for your PT cert is a good idea for you. Sounds like it is very doable...

I will be doing a 10-12 mile run this morning depending on my ITB. It has felt fine but if I feel anything I won't put in alot of distance. Then of course FOOTBALL!! It starts here at noon....

Have a great day...:)

Good morning, ladies:

First................

Sunny - CONGRATS!!!! You are my hero! Congrats on making the move to a better you and the life you want to have. I'm tempting to do the same, but need a plan of action first. I applaud you for changing professions and doing what you want to do. Way to go!!!!

I've had the busiest week in a long time and it's winding down tonight with a meeting after supper, but that should be fun so I'm looking forward to it. I will go back and catch up and get personals done a little bit here. ;-)

Today, I'm cleaning my office so I know what's going on. Organizing my fitness tapes and bringing the ones i don't do to class for anyone who is interested. Working out. Creating some new routines for class, too, and inputing some circuit work.

I need to get back on my rotation now that I will have time to exercise again (past week was very scarce for working out :-( ) I need to do some strength work BAD, so I think I will PUB and maybe a good long walk in the snow. Yes, it's snowing now again, very pretty though, but that makes it hard to go running.

Anyhoo, I'll be back later - just wanted you to know I was still alive and kickin'!!

Marcia :*

Hi Cheetahs—
Back in the swing after a bout of the flu and then no internet service for almost a week because of a nasty ice storm in Michigan We were actually lucky to lose only internet connection, because several of our friends lost power for more than 2 days.

Thanks to everyone for sending out a hello message on the open forum. I was really touched and surprised to see it yesterday when we finally got the computer up and running again.

I’ve been building back up my running after being sick last weekend. I did a 7 mile run today in the freezing cold and by the end of it, I felt ok. The first 4 or 5 miles were not fun. I was worried it would be too icy – but the roads were ok.

I have a lot of Cheetah catching up to do – seems like I’ve missed a lot so bear with me!

Cathy – you are an amazing teacher working hard to grade papers. My son in middle school does not regularly receive work back from teachers. So there are 2 obvious solutions: we can move to your city so my younger DS can have you as a teacher for middle school next year. Or you can move here to be a teacher and have more free time on weekends!!!! Thanks for organizing the t-shirts. Smart to avoid the outdoor run if you have other alternatives for cardio. It’s no fun out there now.

Wendy—are you thinking of being a personal trainer or a physical therapist? I think you would be great at both.

Christine—Football today and what is your exercise game plan for the week?

Sunny – I missed out on what is going on with your job. Are you a personal trainer? Great job hanging in on that run yesterday. Hills + cold weather (if you live in a cold climate) are tough. Good luck with P90. The new infomercial is fun to watch.

Laurie—I’ve missed a lot, but I’m gathering things didn’t work with Glen. I’m sorry and hope that the pain becomes a distant memory very soon. Dating is so hard and making small talk with people in unnatural ways feels so awkward...but online is worth trying or finding the right spot to try it out at, because a lot of regular, nice people do that. I have two friends who are married who met each other through print ads in community newspapers (in the days before online!)

Karen—good luck on your 5K. You will heat up that freezing pavement!!!!!!!!!!!

Jess-training for a tri? You go girl. Good job on the 20 minutes of swimming. Swimming is tough to do…..but a great workout

Carole--.Good luck on your long run this a.m. and then have fun with football. What is going on with your ITB? I have been doing a lot of backbend like stretches on the stability ball through being sick in the past couple of weeks and find it interesting that keeping my low back loose is also benefiting the hip area.

Shelly—I have to go back through the threads and read your race report. How are you??

Marcia—How are you? How’s your job? The weather must be true winter in Minnesota now??? Good for you organizing your fitness tapes. I did PUB last week and PLB, too—they are fun tapes, but I can’t do them for more than one week at a time because I get antsy. Do you have yak-traks for your shoes for walking in the snow? I have a pair and love them!

Hi to everyone else: Judy, Susan, Laura, Elaine, Coco, LD and everyone else ...
Have a great day Cheetahs! Hope to be back later to say hi again.

-Barb:)

morning ladies,

barb -glad you are feeling better!
cathy- thanks for ordering the shirt!
carole- I havent been doing the elliptical alot lately. I did do it at the gym on thursday. I like theirs better than mine. Also I have been having issues with my toes going numb whenever I am on the spin bike or the elliptical machines. from my third toe on over to my little toe. I think I might have some circulation problems.

I just got back from a 4mile run outside. My legs are freezing. It was very cold but I made it. It is 26 degrees here in ohio. brrrrrr.

talk to you all later!!

Good morning all! I don't know how this is possible but I'm actually feeling better one week after the marathon the I did one week before! I had a great time with BM2 yesterday and went heavier than Cathe in all of the sets wooohoooo!! Tonight it's back to work... sigh. There are 2 young RNs at work whom I've enabled into running and they both did the Half marathon last week. Now they are both really excited and pester me for advice on training. I feel like a mother hen:) We'll be running a half together in May.

Cathy- I did KM with weighted gloves the other day... it does make a difference! I'm sending you a check today for the Tshirt. Thanks again! Those bloomin onions are delicious:9

Colleen- Nice to hear from you! Definitely get an iPod when you can. It's one of those things that once you have it you wonder how you ever got along without one.

Christine- I guess it was BM2 for you yesterday as well! Dont you feel so accomplished after that one? How is it going for the new runners you've been mentoring? Are they still planning on doing the RnR with you?

Wendy- Great job on your 5 mile run! That's pretty routine for you now isn't it? Fantastic that you're going for the PT cert!!!!!!
You'll make a great trainer I'm positive. Sounds like you have a wonderful relaxing rest day planned.... go for it.

SunnyD- Congratulations on your impending resignation.... YAYYYY!!!
Now you can focus on your PT career which seems to have gotten off to a really strong start. Good job with your cold 5 mile run... sounds like you need to invest in some good cold weather running gear.

Laurie- I'm with you there on the on-line dating. It wouldn't be something I'd be comfortable with either. But alot of people really like it. I have a good friend who is doing that now and she says she is having a ball. The NASCAR thing has always been a puzzle to me. I secretly think the REAL reason people watch it is to see the crashes. BTW, have you considered joining a running club? You would be doing what you like and you may meet someone.

Karen- Good luck today!!!! Dont worry about the cold. With a 5k it'll be over before you know it!!

Carole- Okay, here's an official challenge  If I can do firewalkers with the silver band certainly my hero Carole can!!!!
You really have to work to get the leg separation.... and oh the BURN
}( }( }( Hope you can get in your 10-12 miles without any ITB issues. Have a great Sunday football day!!

Marcia- What a great idea about getting rid of your unused workout vids! I've given a few away myself but still have quite a few that are collecting dust. Have fun with PUB }( }(

Barb- Great to hear from you!!!! I'm sorry you've been sick. No internet for a week:eek:   Now that's a hardship! A 7 mile run in Michigan in the winter:eek:   You are one supertough cheetah to be sure. I'm running only vicariously through the other cheetahs here for a few weeks. I'm determined to see the last of these injuries!

Alright... enough chattin with the cheetahs for now. On tap for today will be DM ultracardioblast premix}( and 30 minutes of rowing.

Later...

ShellyC

Hi Laura... posting at the same time. I just wanted to say that foot numbness is a common problem with ellipticals. There is a lot of forward pressure from the motion on the feet and toes in particular. The laced area of your shoes then tends to press down on the nerves and blood vessels along the top of your feet. At home I actually wear slippers instead of shoes. Try to make sure your shoes aren't laced tight. Just a thought....:) Good job on your chilly 4 miler!

ShellyC

Good morning ladies,
I am up and feeling pretty good today. My back the last couple of days has been pretty good and I have been icing it and trying to get plenty of rest to get rid of it for good. I have to confess though, I did feel pretty guilty yesterday doing drill max when I really am not supposed to do anything high impact, but it felt great and the cardio is pretty brief and there is a long break before each cardio session. It was very doable and I am having no pain this morning, YAY!!! I feel a run coming to me very soon}( It is funny that my heartrate is actually higher doing the elliptical than my cathe videso now. I think the elliptical has gotten me in great shape.

I am going to do a butts and gutts premix today and abs and a long stretch. We are taking my MIL to Sizzler for steak and fries...mmmmm

I will definitley be back for personals after my workout:)

Susan

I just placed my order for the study materials/exam from American Fitness Professionals Assoc. (AFPA)! OMG! OMG! I'm sooo excited but sooo very scared too! *jumps up and down and runs around in circles screaming like a child who ate too much sugar!* :7 :7 :7

I'll be back for personals once I regain my composure. ;)

Shelly--these ladies are lucky to have you helping them with running. It's nice to have someone "live" to share the excitement with. Have fun with the DM premix today and glad you are feeling on the mend only a week after your marathon. Thanks for the cheers for the Michigan cold weather run. It is really hard to get out the door in Michigan this time of year, whether it's to run or go to the mailbox. A dreary, gray time of year!

Susan--glad you're back isn't bothering you today after DM. The advice to take it easy is always worth editing to suit what you think is best for your body. It's hard to know sometimes what is the right thing to do without some experimenting. Good for you that you feel in good cardiovascular condition from the elliptical.

laura--I had the foot numbness too when I used the elliptical this year at the gym. I would have to really concentrate on stepping into my heels to relieve it and did use the suggestion Shelly gave you about lacing shoes differently and trying different shoes with stickier soles.

Barb:)

Okay Cheetahs. I have regained my composure. Time to stop being so self-absorbed and write some personals to you lovely ladies!:)

Laurie, Sorry you are not feeling comfy with the online dating thing. They say one of the best places to meet people is in the grocery store! I don't get it but maybe it works! Ever tried it? :)

Cathy, Thanks for the cert info from Cathe's gym. I can't wait to get my Cheetah shirt! You and I are very close in age. I was "old" prior to being a mom though. DH and I used to sit home many a saturday night when we should have been out somewhere having fun! LOL

Karen, I hope your FREEZING 5k went well! Let us know where you placed when you get the results!

Carole, I hope your ITB feels good enough to get all of your miles in today. Have fun watching football! My DH is going to a friend's for FB today. I say GOOD RIDDANCE! LOL :p

Marcia, Hope you can get back into the strength training! It's very important! Have fun creating new routines for your step class.

Barb, An ice storm? YIKES! We had a really bad one in my area going back many years. They are scarey. Definately scarier then snow!Glad you are feeling better but sorry you had to deal with the flu! I am cetifying to be a personal trainer. I'm excited, nervous, scared...you name it! Fitness is my one true interest/passion so I figure making a career out of it makes sense instead of going back to the boring desk jobs I've had in the past and pretty much hated! Can't wait to get the study materials!:+

Laura, ^5's to you too on the cold run! I am a wuss! You would never catch me out there is such frigid temps! :p

Shelly, Glad you are feeling so great this week! How long is one supposed to rest from running after a marathon? How about after a half? It's nice that you've been such a positive influence on your coworkers. Running the half with them in May should be fun!:) Thanks for the vote of confidence on the pt thing. I need it. I'm very nervous about it. EEK!

Susan, I'm happy to hear that you are healing so well! Can't wait to hear about your first run once you are all better. Don't over-do it though. No trying to run 5 miles right out of the box, you hear!? *wags finger at you like a mother to her child* LOL :7

Well, I think I am caught up for now...I'll be back later I hope!

TOODLES!:7

Wendy--I think it's great that you want to/will be a personal trainer. That is a great job for you and you'll be great at it. Also, it will probably work out really well as Joey gets older because you'll have more potential to control your schedule?? Good luck studying and make us your test audience by teaching us all the things you are going to learn.

Thanks for the support re: the ice storm-- it was weird....the icy on electrical lines and trees caused a lot of damaged. Trees were down from the weight of the ice all over my neighborhood, though only one in our yard.

Have a great day!
-Barb:)

Barb...so nice to see you posting...:)...I missed ya! I had been having some tweaks with my knee, it seemed mainly in the back of the knee. But when I got a massage last Tues ,my massage therapist told me it was my ITB. So she worked on the thigh where the ITB goes up and it has felt wonderful since!! That is interesting how doing the stability ball exercises are helping your hip...but hey, thats good!! Good job on the 7 miles so soon after the flu!

Laura...I agree with Shelly about the foot numbness. Tight shoes can do that, maybe wear thinner socks and ease up on the lacing...:)

Shelly...of course your coworkers would come to you for advice! I think having your medical background besides running background would make you very knowledgeable...and I already know you are...Oh geeze....a challenge from you? You know I'll take you up on it....:)...next Thurs it'll be the silver band for firewalkers....:)...The run was great and I made 12 without pain!

Susan...my HR is higher doing the Elliptical than any Cathes too. With running though it is the highest! Glad your sciatic is feeling better.

Wendy....WAY TO GO!!!!!!...:)..I always have fun watching Football....:)...my DH is gone for a few hours now, so yes I am doing the happy dance!

I had a very good run. Went 12 miles and only a few times I felt a tightness in my ITB but no pain. I am going to do some housework and then watch the games...http://smilies.sofrayt.com/sae/football2.gif[/img]
