*****Chinups: Love 'em/Hate 'em*****

OK, I admit that I have a love/hate relationship with chinups :+ How long have we had this thread going? It's been over 2 years. I think we are going on three aren't we?? Wow, that's a long time. Dang, when I think about it that way, I feel like I should be doing like 100 chinups in a row :p

Well, I did legs and chins today. My usual Wed w/o. I am finding that it will take a bit of getting used to squatting in a cage. But that's fine. I love it :D I will moan and groan a bit about my chinup numbers this week. Here's my list of excuses: 1) the new bar on the power cage is different and set up for man :p 2) I haven't been feeling up to snuff lately 3) there really isn't a # 3 so I guess I will move along. Oh yeah, forgot to say that the new bar is harder (no soft cushie grip) and I don't have to jump to get to it. I can tip toe and grab the bar. So I really didn't think I was using that momentum from the little jump to the bar, but I guess maybe I was x( Anyway, here are my numbers:

weighted chins: 3+2 x 5 sets with 4.25# ( the first number is all me the second is with a light band assist) Last time I did weighted chins on my old bar I did 5x5 with wt. So I wonder if I should drop the weight and do 5x5 on my own again or keep the wt and keep trying to improve from here?? Advice anyone?

Joanne, I can not wait to see you again
Marcy, are you all moved in?
Briee, I know you've been busy working out }(

Wow-has it been that long that we have had this check-in going? I have to work on doing two in a row. And, I feel the same way that they are a love-hate thing. But,everytime I pull myself up over that bar I still feel great. I know it is only one but .....

Catherine-can't wait to see you again too.

Joanne

Joanne, I agree it feels so awesome to get up over that bar!!

This morning I did DM cardioblast and pullups. Again my numbers are down and I am blaming it on my new bar. I did 5 sets of 3/2 (first number all me, second number light band assisted) Then I did 2 sets of 5 widegrip with light band assist. I am determined to get my numbers back up to where they were with my old bar. I do still have it, but now I am on a mission to prove something to myself }(

Waving to Briee and Marcy!!

Okay...I'm feeling guilty now...I found this thread WAYYYY on page 3. I got busy and should have checked in EARLIER!!! So sorry.

I HAVE been working out, but have had back issues along the way. That same spot that always seemed to bug me years ago is doing it again and the chiro kept telling me to drop weight and do less reps and I keep thinking - "but then I might as well be doing NOTHING!!" So, I decided that I had NO problems when I was doing the P90X which is heavier weight and a much harder workout and I'm gonig to go back to it until Cathe's new ones arrive!! Make sense? I did P90X C&B yesterday with a total of 6 sets of 5 pullup, chinup combinations. I'm REALLY sore today - but NOT in that "spot". I can only surmise that his warm up must include something that helps me avoid injury to that "spot". Don't know what else it could be. I did LL for legs this morning and still have to work out with the ladies tonight - not sure what we'll do.

Regarding the cage Catherine. I'm used to it now - but still can't use it for lunges really or plie squats. There is kind of a learning curve. Keep trying!! How is everyone else doing????

Joanne...isn't it just great to pull that body weight up. One is AWESOME!!!! Some days I can barely do one - ALL DEPENDS ON THE DAY RIGHT!!

Briee

Briee, sorry to hear about your back issues. I have some lower back issues too that surface periodically and hate it. I think doing P90X is a great precurser to STS!!

Thanks for the info on the cage. I am getting more accustomed to it. I can not lunge in there either. I usually do my plie squats holding a DB between my legs like Cathe in S&H- I feel them more that way }(

Waves to Joanne and Marcy!!

Catherine...what a beautiful picture of you and your dh!!!! Thanks for posting that!!!! And the pictures of your home and workout room are gorgeous!!

That's it.....nothing else to post.

Briee

(oh except maybe this...just talked to the ladies about working out tonight and they want to do a WEIGHT WORKOUT. I can hardly breathe from doing chest and back yesterday....and my legs are beginning to ache from legs this morning. I'm going to be in PAIN tonight!!!). (good pain I hope)

Ah, thanks Briee I am blushing!!

Sounds like you are in for quit a night!! }( }(

I am still having pelvic pain issues x( But workouts have been consisent. That's the only thing that keeps me sane. DH tells me to take a rest for a while because of the pain. Well, I did just take a week off and the pain is there whether I workout or not. So I might as well!! Sorry to rant!

Catherine-sorry to hear about your pelvic pain. How long have you had it? Sorry, if I missed that somewhere. I agree with Briee-nice pic of you and your hubby.

Briee-hope your back is feeling better today.

Marcy-are you all moved in?

Joanne

Catherine - Just thought I would pop in here and let you know that I am thinking about letting the "no Sweets" check in die. Seems that no one but you and I check in there anymore, so I thought maybe I would just stop in here to talk to you instead, Especially since I am always trying to improve my chin and Pullup numbers anyway! LOL! If the others come back fine but I just don't see the sense in keeping it going.

Anyway here is what I did this morning! BTW way my eating way horrible yesterday. I don't think you could get much worse. It's amazing how hard it is to clean up once you've fallen off. Sugar is just pure evil!

Still have major DOMS in my lats! Ouch! Anyway today was supersets done in three sets of eight with 1 minute rests.

Chest/Back
Flat Barbell Press
8/8/8 - 105#
Underhand Barbell Rows
8/8/8 - 95#

Biceps/Hamstrings
Barbell Curls
8/8/8 - 58#
Elevated SLDL's
8/8/8 - 128#
***s/h tried 59# for biceps, but kept good form so I am happy, Also SLDL was suppose to be 125# but had new bar and guessed the weight of the bar itself wrong***Had DH weigh it afterward!

Shoulders/Quads
Upright Rows
8/8/8 - 67#
Leg Extensions
8/8/8 - 70#
***impressed with the upright rows!, mad about extensions, looked back and saw I once did them with 77 1/2#, darn knee!

Then did LIC abs, skipping the planks, lats needed a break and rows and SLDL was enough for them!

Hey gang! I am due to do chinups this evening. I hope I get around to them. I need to pack for Atlanta. Not enough time in the day!!

Joanne, I've had endometriosis for over 12 years. Several surgeries, etc. Problems started back up in January. Just tired of dealing with it x( But I push on,...

Linda, I am glad you are joining in!! Awesome w/o as usual!! I agree to let the other thread die.

Briee, how'd the w/o go last night?

Marcy, we miss you!!

Hi Ladies,

I know Catherine is out of town, but I thought I'd post to anyone else that stops in.

Let me introduce myself. I check in with the Hardcore Maniacs and I checked in with Catherine and some others in the No Sweets check in but they all have seemed to have left. Anyway, I like to lift heavy, chinups and pullups are my nemesis, but I don't do them as often as Catherine (she is truely obsessed). Oh and I just turn 40 a couple weeks ago, I have a DH, DS and DD. So I hope you don't mind me joining you, because I really want to keep in touch with Catherine and it's always fun to make new friends!

BTW, chinups are on the agenda tomorrow morning!

Hi Ladies!

I'm baaaaaaaack! We're all moved in but definitely not all unpacked. I only started workout out again last week. Did some pushups in hotel rooms. When I got home I did a Namaste yoga and some pilates. Monday was my first real workout. I did CIA 2803 Tap Less, Sweat More. It was a total disaster. My asthma was acting up and it was also my first workout so I only got through about half of it. I usually love complicated step choreography but I guess my concentration was off with trying to breathe. Today I did Tracey Staehle's Parts - Upper Body and things went much better. I love that workout. I might be doing endurance workouts for a little while since I gave my nephew my barbell and plates. (Was trying to save money on moving.) Once I get a new job, I really want to get a set of the Bowflex Selectech dumbbells. Really expensive but won't take up much room. It's nice to have my own workout room right now. Right now I have my TV on a stand but I'd like to get an LCD to hang on the wall like Catherine.

I also did 2 chinups today. My Door Gym fits perfectly in my workout room. Now I don't have to go running up and down the stairs anymore during workouts.

Briee - Sorry about your back issues. In honor of you, I ate two donuts on the road.}( My eating on the road was atrocious but now that we've settled in, I'm eating better (although not perfect).

Catherine - Sorry about your pelvic pain. I can't imagine having constant pain for 12 years.

Linda - Welcome. Nice to meet you.

Waves to Joanne!

Marcy

Marcy...glad you are back!!!! And thanks for eating two donuts in my honor.....there is nothing more honorable right!!:p :p :p :p :p

Catherine....yucko's on the pelvic pain!! Hope you feel better soon.

Linda...."what do you mean Catherine's obsessed with pull/chin ups....of course she is....we are all obsessed with them here on the chin/pull site}( }( }( }( :p :p :p :p That's a prerequisite don't ya know!!"
AND....WELCOME TO THE SITE. Be obsessed!! By the way...beautiful arms!! Very nice avatar! I'm really glad you are joining the site. AND most of all....I like your verse. And since you listed I Cor. 6:12, I need to ask...have you mastered not being mastered by workouts? Very tough one that God has worked with me on this past year!! A whole 'nother subject though. :7 :7 :7 :7 . Now...go do a pull ups!!

Joanne...beautiful day out and I'm going to run/walk our drive right now. I'd like to state for the record that it is NOT going to snow anymore this year....right?x( x( x( x(

Briee (I'm so excited the chinnin site is growin!!)

So Catherine...I want to know how this chin up training is working for you, because it REALLY seems to have worked for me.

I just did S&H legs with pullups mixed in and I decided to do them to failure today, haven't done that in weeks. (I've just been doing my sets of 5's). So here are my sets: 8 pullups, 12 chins, 10 pullups, 8 chins. This is the first time in the last year that I've been able to get a set of 12 chins. The last 2 were really tough and I hung for a few seconds before doing them. I've never before gotten 10 pulls either. I think this is a combination of losing weight from the fast I was on and doing this training method. I am INCREDIBLY shaky after doing these....but it's a happy shaky. I'm going back to the sets of 5's for the next few weeks and then trying again. Let me know how it is going for you Catherine, if you decide to go to failure sometime.

Goin to bed now...have a good night all.

Briee

Linda-Welcome! I see you live in NJ. How far are you from Cathe? Are you going on this years RT? I'm going in August. I can't wait!

Catherine-What's going on in Atlanta?

Briee-I'm not getting anything done in my house because I just want to be outside now that we finally have nice weather.

Marcy-Glad you are all moved in. Have you been exploring your new area?

Yesterday, I did one chin. I went for a 4 mile walk/run with my two DD's. Beautiful day!

Joanne

Hi Ladies!

No workout today. But I did do 2 chins yesterday and one chin today. I have to work my way up to the rest of you.

I might try to get a workout in tonight - probably legs and I'll try to do some more pullups/chinups.

Joanne - Yes, we've definitely been exploring our area. We really love it here. And of course I checked out Dick's Sporting Goods to see what new equipment I need to get.

Catherine - I didn't know you were in Atlanta. I'm about a half hour away.

Waves to Briee and Linda!

Marcy

Evening Friends,

Briee - Thanks for the compliment. About the verse, I've been using it in my battle against sugar! In particular chocolate. So no I haven't thought about how it applied to my workouts. Although I do try not to let them interfere with other things. Can you tell me about this training you and Catherine are using for pullups and chinups?

Joanne - I live about an hour away from Cathe and have yet to go see her. I did not sign up for the roadtrip, didn't have the money.

It is done! Today was the last day of this rotation! Yipee! Rest week! May do some cardio though. Anyway, today was supersets done in three sets of 12 with 1:30 rests.

Back/Chest
Weighted Chins
9/8/7 - 2#
Incline Bench Press
12/12/9 - 83#
***I know it was only 2# on the chins, but you gotta start somewhere. Not sure why I failed on the inclines, I only went up a pound, I guess the superset did me in.

Quads/Triceps
Bulgarian Split Squats
12/12/12 - 80#
Close Grip Bench Press
12/12/12 - 78#
***Did BSS with dumbbells this time. Also CG Bench felt great, almost failed at 77# last week so only went up a pound, but this week no problem, go figure?***

Shoulders/Hamstrings
Alternate Front Raises
12/12/12 - 16's
Wide Stance Squats
12/12/12 - 95#

Then did some ab work

Have a great night!

Just want to jump on quick and say that I did two, yes that's right, two chin ups in a row. The second one I had to use my legs to help a little but I was happy :)

Have a great Sunday evening.

Joanne
