What is age .....

It’s just a number, right?
I started thinking about age as I start to enter my mid-40’s in less than a month.
One birthday that stands out is when I turned 32. I remember being so proud of that for some reason, mainly because I remember reading that men enter their prime at 18 and women at 32. So, I looked forward to 32. Oooh, what would being in my “prime” feel like? Well, it was just another year, but the thing that stands out is a male co-worker being surprised that I was 32 that he thought I was much older. HELLO, did he not get the male etiquette course 101??!!?? I asked why he thought that and he said because I had soooooooo many kids. WHAT? I had 2 (still do). If I were a man, none of this would have EVER come into question. So, yea, he burst my bubble of turning 32, just by one lousy comment.
So now as I enter my mid-40’s and have a “take me as I am or leave me” attitude, I try not to let others opinions influence as I see myself. I want to enjoy each year I am given to the fullest. To live a good life, respect others, and respect myself (even when they do their best to beat me down). I may not have the perfect body (as in that stuff that collects easier in your mid section), I may have stretch marks from my beautiful boys (now 16 & 19), I may have a few facial wrinkles (especially when I smile), my joints are a bit creakier, but you know what? I’m ME, and I am striving to be the best ME I can be no matter what my age. I am to carry this attitude with me for when I enter my 50’s, 60’s, and beyond.

Good for you!!! I believe that the only opinion that you should care about is your own opinion. At the end of the day, if you feel good about yourself and your world that positive feeling will spill over into the rest of your life and will also inspire others.
I will be 47 next month and I feel great! The more "mature" I become, the more I appreciate life and all it has to offer. I'm a much better person now than I was 20 years ago and so much happier as well! Jane |
