I journal every day on my own, so might as well share them here too!
STUPID STUPID STUPID THURSDAY!!

Thursday, to put it bluntly, SUCKED!!!
The biggest glitch of my day happened to me at 8:20am. I was bringing the kitties' breakfast up stairs, and my 4th toe on my left foot caught on a book or part of a book case. Stubbed it bad!... but when I looked down at it, it was pointed in the WRONG direction
. And it hurt like HELL! Needless to say, the kitties did NOT get their breakfast right away , and you could hear my howling 2 streets over, I'm sure. Shortly afterwards, I started sobbing
. Sobbing because my second thought, after the pain, was that I couldn't work OUT anymore, and I couldn't continue the rotation I was doing this month!!! I sobbed for quite a while. Somehow, I got my last 2 boys out to the bus, and then inside, trying to convince myself, it was "ok". It was feeling "better". But then I'd get up to walk and ZING!, the pain ripped through my entire foot!
Hubby came home from work shortly, and I told him of my "boo-boo". I also called the doctor, and agreed it would be best be seen and XRAY'd, so I would KNOW how to treat it and if it would be ok to work 2, 12 hour night shifts this weekend. Got to the doctors, and then downstairs to XRAY. The technician brought the films to the radiologist, and I could see them talking, but not hear them. Maybe it was questionable? Maybe it was just a sprain??? The tech came out and said, "You broke it badly enough, even *I*, a nonprofessional, could tell it's broken". I just about got back to the waiting room , and BAWLED LIKE A BABY!! Life as I know it was OVER!! (Plus my toe was hurting like a SOB!).
Back home, taped it, iced it, and shortly afterwards, started feeling pretty dang sorry for myself....
I drowned my sorrows in PB , chocolate chips, and Fluff. I hate that I did it. I'm working on BETTER stress relief, But this stress was something I hadn't had to deal with , and it blind sided me!
I have come up with a "plan". A PLAN, to do upper body weight work, Lower body FLOOR work, Pilates, and possibly some upper body cardio (Punches from Kickbox routines). I have to do this, to keep my moral up , or I'm sunk. Working out is something I've grown to LOVE and look forward to.
Not to mention that my PRIME running time at the park is shot! I could just CRY thinking about THAT one!
I hope this is a shortlived speed bump! HOPE HOPE HOPE with all my heart!!!!!

Yeowch! So sorry to hear about your broken toe, Chris. It sounds like you have a great plan for staying as active as you can, though.
You are definitely not alone in reaching for the comfort foods during times of stress. My eating was junked up a bit this week with the return to work, so I'm right there with ya! Maybe it's time to schedule a massage? ![]() |

Thanks! I'm really doing crappy coping with this all. I ate off yesterday too. I need to stop!!!
Relax time sounds like a good idea! I tried to download some breathing and progressive muscle relaxation videos yesterday, but it didn't work. So , I'm trying to figure that out as well...!! |

Accidents stink! Glad you got mad and cried and ate! Good relief and all only temporary. Seeing ya' feeling better and meanwhile, maybe everybody at home can ship in more to help - as you try to relax some. Maybe??? Seeing you with your foot up and being waited on hand and foot. Maybe just some of this, maybe??

Well, I hope you are doing better, many months later. I'm curious about what your plan ultimately turned out to be.
Just wanted to say that the X-Ray technician completely overstepped his bounds by diagnosing you - that is not his job. If X-Ray technicians are regulated where you are, he could have gotten in a lot of trouble for practicing outside of his scope of practice. This may seem a small point, but it is an enormous issue in the regulated health professions. He could have been seriously disciplined and even have lost his job. |

Oh thank you! Months later, my toe IS "normal". Once in a great while it feels "weird", but totally heeled , thankfully! It was a tough few months. I did many upper body cardio workouts (Punching combos only) and upper body weight work. Also, after a week or so, was able to ride a bike, so got my "endorphins" in that way. As soon as I was able, I jumped right back into Step and Kickboxing.
Currently doing STS and enjoying a BUNCH of different cardios. even went for my first run out at the park last week .. the weather has finally turned nice! I had no idea about the tech being in the wrong saying that. I think if I'm remembering right, the doctor was also there , and they were commenting together. So i don't think he did anything wrong... Thanks for reading my blog.. I haven't in a while, and should post a few soon! Chris |
